Can You Visit All the Best Akamas Spots in One Day?

Naturschönheit, Sicherheit und beste Preise: Ihr perfekter Bootsausflug in den Akamas mit Georges Watersports

For first-time visitors, the sheer scale of the Akamas can feel a bit overwhelming.

The Akamas Peninsula is the “Wild West” of Cyprus. It’s a place where the asphalt ends, the legends of Goddesses begin, and the water turns a shade of blue so vivid it looks like it’s been photoshopped.

For first-time visitors, the sheer scale of the Akamas can feel a bit overwhelming. It’s rugged, and if you try to wing it, you might spend more time dusty and lost than you do floating in the Mediterranean. But here is the local secret: Yes, you can see the very best of it in one day. You just need the right route. Forget the bumpy tracks to the south; the Northwest coast is where the magic happens – by boat!

Here is your ultimate, sun-soaked, salt-in-your-hair guide to the perfect Latchi day trip and the Akamas.

09:00 AM: Start with “Nature’s Air Conditioning in the heart of the akamas”

Your journey begins at the Baths of Aphrodite. While the rest of the island starts to sizzle by mid-morning, this spot remains a sanctuary of cool. Legend says the Goddess of Love used to bathe here in a shaded grotto fed by a freshwater spring.

Even on the hottest August day, stepping into this shaded glade feels like walking into an air-conditioned room. The combination of the ancient fig tree’s canopy and the constant flow of cool spring water creates a microclimate that is unique to this corner of Cyprus. It’s the perfect, refreshing way to wake up before the sun hits its peak.

Pro Tip: Take a 15-minute stroll up the start of the Aphrodite Nature Trail just behind the grotto. You don’t need to hike the whole mountain, but just a little elevation gives you a panoramic view of the coastline you’re about to explore.

10:30 AM: Akamas Coastal Cruising & Turtle Spotting

By mid-morning, head to Latchi Harbour. While many people think you have to drive all the way to Lara Bay to see turtles, locals know better. Our Northwest coastline is a haven for the Loggerhead turtles that call these waters home. Interestingly, Green Turtles almost exclusively lay their eggs on the west coast of Cyprus, and Loggerhead turtles on the north coast.

The best way to see this coastline is, of course, from the deck of a boat. At George’s Watersports, we’ve been helping explorers find their sea legs since 1989. You don’t need a license to be the captain; hire one of our self-drive speedboats and head west toward the tip of the peninsula. Keep your eyes peeled as you pass the quieter coves, as turtles are frequent visitors to the seagrass beds along this stretch.

11:30 AM: The Summer Surprise, Bottlenose Dolphins

If you are visiting in June or July, keep your camera ready. During these months, if you’re lucky, you might encounter a pod of Bottlenose Dolphins. They love the deep, clean waters of Chrysochous Bay and have been known to “race” alongside all types of boats, leaping through the wake. It’s a magical experience that even the locals never get tired of seeing.

12:30 PM: The Akamas Hidden Gems (Manolis & Fontana Amorosa)

As you cruise further, you’ll reach Manolis Bay. The sea caves here are spectacular, and the water is incredibly clear, perfect for a mid-day snorkel. Further along, you’ll find Fontana Amorosa (The Fountain of Love). Mythology aside, it’s a stunning natural harbour with a sandy bottom and incredibly calm waters.

2:30 PM: The Main Event in the Akamas – The Blue Lagoon

No Latchi day trip is complete without the Blue Lagoon. The white sandy floor reflects the sunlight, making the water glow an iridescent turquoise. Because you have your own boat, you can find your own spot away from the bigger tour ships. Anchor up, dive into the crystal waters, and simply float. This is the moment you’ll remember most.

7:00 PM: Golden Hour Return

As the sun starts to dip, cruise back toward Latchi. The “Golden Hour” on the Akamas coast is something special. The limestone cliffs turn a deep orange-gold, and the sea becomes as flat as a mirror.

The Local’s Checklist: What to Pack

To make the most of your Akamas day trip, here is what the locals bring on the boat:

  • High-Factor Sunscreen: The reflection off the water is beautiful, but it doubles the sun’s power. Apply often!
  • Snorkelling Gear: We provide masks and snorkels, but if you have a favourite pair, bring them along to explore the caves at Manolis Bay.
  • Waterproof Phone Pouch: You will want photos of the Blue Lagoon (and hopefully those dolphins!).
  • Plenty of Water: Exploring is thirsty work. We provide a cool box, so feel free to pack it with snacks and drinks.
  • Your Driver’s License: If you’re hiring a self-drive boat, don’t forget your car license!
